Here's the sheet of anti-reflective glass with tape on it. I left one side open so that it would not obscure the holes on the holder. I put electricians tape on three sides to make it safer and to keep it from scratching the scanner bed. Anti-reflective glass prevents Newton rings where the film touches the glass. The picture cost me $2, but all I wanted was the glass. You can also buy sheets of anti-reflective glass at an art shop or craft store, but they are expensive.

You will need to adjust the levels to bring the whites in the picture up to the level of the holes. If you're scanning positives, it will see the holes as the whitest white and everything else will be pushed down. You will need to adjust the levels to bring the blacks in the picture down to the level of the holes. If you're scanning negatives, it will see the holes as the blackest black and everything else will be pushed up. It's true that if you include the sprocket holes, Epson Scan is thrown off with respect to levels. If you deselect "Thumbnails", then Epson Scan lets you freely select the bounding boxes. You won't be able to use the thumbnail function to have Epson Scan figure out the bounding boxes automatically. The only problem is that you will have to select the bounding boxes yourself. You can see how much area is left beyond the sprocket holes. I scanned these shots using the DigitaLiza.

It leaves the sprocket holes and some film beyond them visible. The DigitalLisa does cut off a tiny amount of the edges, but it's really a very small amount.

I wrote this article on an easy trick that lets you align the DigitalLiza quickly, easily, and consistently on the v500. I have scanned many sprocket hole shots on my v500. What will slow you down is not really setting-up, but the time it takes the scanner to actually scan.Īlso I've read Digitaliza cuts stuff off your scans. Personally I use the 120 holder, and pinch the negative between a stack of business cards to keep it off the glass and do one exposure at a time. I would say don't bother with a Digitaliza, at least until you've tried with just the 'holder' things that come with the scanner. I use some of the same cameras as you and scan sprockets on a v500 and have done a little bit of 120 on it. That said, including the sprocket area and black framing will confuse the scanner and make it display the coloured areas of the negatives in a poor hue. Lay the negs onto the glass direclty and you can scan what you like, within the limits of a) the top light, and b) the sensor area of the scanner. I am looking to buy the digitaliza holders for 35mm and possibly 120 if I can scan the neg frame too (like the 35mm one). Is this true? What is the neg max scanning area size on the v500?

I have also read that you can mod the v500 120 holder to actually scan 3 6圆 at once. I have heard that the neg scanning area is the same on the v500 and v600, and it is just the neg holder with the v500 that is limiting how many frames you can scan.

I have been looking around at scanners to primarily scan 35mm (with sprockets), 6圆 and soon 6x12, (along with being able to scan the full width/height of frame to include film info) courtesy of my holga 120gn, 120wpc, another pinhole camera and a Lubitel
